Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026
The short version: We collect your phone number so we can relay messages between you and whoever finds your lost belongings — without ever revealing your number to them, or theirs to you. We don't sell it or share it for marketing. The only SMS we send are account messages (registration confirmation, login verification) and relayed messages from finders — never marketing.
1. What we collect
When you register a Qivari tag set, we collect:
- Your phone number (US/CA only at this time), which is used to verify ownership and to relay messages to you from finders. Your number is never shown to finders.
- An optional label you provide for the tag set (e.g., "Dan's laptop"), visible only to you in your dashboard.
When anyone scans a tag, we log:
- The time and date of the scan
- The country, state, and approximate city derived from the visitor's internet connection (via Cloudflare)
- The device class (mobile, desktop, tablet)
- A one-way hash of the visitor's IP address (we never store the raw IP)
- The browser user-agent string
The time, approximate city, and device class are shown to the tag owner in their dashboard so they can see when and roughly where their tags have been scanned. The IP hash and full user-agent string are never shown to anyone — they are used internally for analytics and abuse detection only.
2. How we use your phone number
We use your phone number for the following purposes:
- Account verification. You verify ownership of your number by sending us a registration or login text from your phone; we may send SMS related to your account in return, such as a registration confirmation or login verification message.
- Message relay with finders. When someone finds your tagged item and scans the tag, they can send you a message through Qivari. We relay messages between you and the finder through our Twilio number, so you can arrange the return by text. Your phone number is never shown to the finder, and the finder's number is never shown to you — both stay private. Relayed messages also appear in your dashboard.
3. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your information to third parties. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
We use the following service providers to operate Qivari:
- Cloudflare — hosting, DNS, content delivery, security (Turnstile CAPTCHA, Access for admin auth)
- Twilio — phone number validation, receiving your registration and login texts, and delivering Qivari's SMS (account messages and relayed finder messages)
These providers process your information only as needed to operate the service.
Your phone number is never shown to finders. Communication with a finder happens only through Qivari's message relay, which keeps both your number and the finder's number private.
4. How long we keep your information
- Phone number and label: retained while your tag sets are active. Deleted immediately when you delete your account from the dashboard.
- Scan logs: retained for 90 days, then permanently deleted.
- One-time SMS codes: deleted after use or after 5 minutes, whichever comes first.
5. Your choices
- Deactivate a tag set. From your dashboard, you can deactivate any tag set. Deactivated tags no longer show your phone number to finders.
- Delete your account. From your dashboard, you can permanently delete your phone number, all labels, and deactivate every tag set you've registered.
- Stop receiving SMS. Reply STOP to any Qivari SMS to opt out of all messages, or HELP for help. Note: opting out will prevent you from logging in or registering new tags. See our SMS Policy for full messaging disclosures.
SMS frequency and rates. Message frequency varies with account activity. Message and data rates may apply. No mobile information or opt-in consent is shared with third parties, and phone numbers are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
6. Security
Your phone number is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure, encrypted in transit and at rest. SMS verification codes are hashed before storage and are single-use with a 5-minute expiry.
7. Children
Qivari is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, email us at support@qivari.com and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a material way, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and notify active users via SMS the next time they log in.
